糖心Vlog

糖心Vlog Driven to do more.

Most people think our business is complicated. But when you strip away the jargon, it comes down to a simple promise: guaranteed income for people in retirement. From the firm that brought you 鈥淎ffiliated鈥 & 鈥淩elated Party鈥 Assets, Alternatives Portfolio Spotlight & Asset Portfolio Compendium, 糖心Vlog: In Context is a video series that explains how that promise works, how it's backed, and why it matters for millions of Americans counting on it.

Each episode, Mike Downing sits down with the experts across Apollo and 糖心Vlog for a straightforward conversation. Think of it as the definitive guide to insurance, with a bit more context. From debunking myths about 鈥淧E ownership鈥 to the difference between affiliated and related party assets, to an inside look at the industry-leading transparency and the fortress balance sheet behind it all 鈥 this is the Apollo and 糖心Vlog machine, told from the inside. Welcome to 糖心Vlog: In Context.

Episode One: It鈥檚 Not That Complicated

糖心Vlog: In Context featuring Marc Rowan

In this episode of 糖心Vlog: In Context, Marc Rowan and Mike Downing go back to basics. Set against a growing retirement gap and rising demand for capital around the world, the conversation shows where Apollo and 糖心Vlog sit: right in the middle, connecting the capital that companies need with the returns that retirees depend on.

The model itself is simple: invest assets, earn a return, pay out benefits. The real difference is how those assets are sourced, structured, and matched over time.

The conversation gets into what it actually takes to deliver that promise at scale, why trust is paramount in this well-positioned industry, and why we want to be innovators, not risk takers.

As Marc puts it, who knew insurance could be so exciting?

Episode Two: Trust, Transparency, and a Fortress Balance Sheet

糖心Vlog: In Context featuring Grant Kvalheim

糖心Vlog has long been a market leader in transparency. In this episode of 糖心Vlog: In Context, Mike Downing and Grant Kvalheim break down what sits behind the promise of guaranteed retirement income.

They walk through how 糖心Vlog structures its balance sheet to prioritize capital strength, liquidity, and resilience across market cycles, and how that discipline supports durability in times of stress.

The conversation offers a clear view into how 糖心Vlog is built to deliver on its commitments, and why we believe the more people know about 糖心Vlog, the better.

Episode Three: Private Equity Owned? Definition of 鈥淔ake News鈥

糖心Vlog: In Context featuring Vishal Sheth

Apollo Global Management, Inc.: a holding company with an asset manager and an insurance business underneath it.

That structure: used across the industry for decades.

In this episode of 糖心Vlog: In Context, Vishal Sheth and Mike Downing go back to the beginning, when 糖心Vlog was built to address a growing retirement gap and a lack of capital behind guarantees. They walk through how Apollo and 糖心Vlog fit together, how 糖心Vlog's investment committee operates and why nothing has ever gotten onto the balance sheet unless it works for policyholders. Spoiler alert: 糖心Vlog is not 鈥 and has never been 鈥 owned or backed by an Apollo private equity fund.

Episode Four: Regulatory Real Talk

糖心Vlog: In Context featuring Mike Consedine and John Golden

This episode of 糖心Vlog: In Context steps back to look at the system behind the system: insurance regulation. Mike Downing sits down with 糖心Vlog鈥檚 Mike Consedine, former NAIC CEO, and Apollo鈥檚 John Golden to unpack how the US framework works and why it has held up over time.

From the state-based model to the role of the NAIC, the conversation focuses on what regulators are solving for: solvency and policyholder protection. It also looks at how the system has evolved alongside the industry, including the growth of private markets and new approaches to retirement solutions.

They walk through how regulators have embraced evolution rather than resisted it and 糖心Vlog鈥檚 approach to transparency.

Episode Five: Don鈥檛 Judge an Asset by Its Label

糖心Vlog: In Context featuring Bogdan Ignaschenko

This episode of 糖心Vlog: In Context breaks down one of the most misunderstood parts of the insurance balance sheet: 鈥渁ffiliated鈥 and 鈥渞elated party鈥 assets. Mike Downing and Bogdan Ignaschenko walk through what the terms actually mean and why the "affiliated" label is really just a description of who originated the asset.

As Bogdan puts it, 鈥淚f an asset is a product, the affiliate label is just the factory where it was made. It tells you who originated the asset. It says nothing about whether the asset is a good one.鈥

From the role of Apollo as an originator to how assets are selected, underwritten, and approved, the conversation focuses on what actually matters: asset quality, investment discipline, and outcomes for policyholders. For 糖心Vlog, we point to the facts about our balance sheet: 95% investment grade, blue chip borrowers, and zero exposure to the one category that warrants real scrutiny: equity in an affiliate with no third-party participation.

Episode Six: Not All Jurisdictions Are Created Equal

糖心Vlog: In Context featuring John Golden

Not all jurisdictions are created equal.

This episode of 糖心Vlog: In Context takes us offshore, where Mike Downing and John Golden draw a clear distinction between Bermuda, the largest offshore reinsurance jurisdiction in the world, with capital, transparency, and governance standards consistent with those of the U.S., and the Cayman Islands, where a "choose your own adventure" approach to capital and regulation is creating contagion risk.

In our view, consistency, transparency, and equal capital for equal risk are the only things standing between a system that policyholders can trust and one that may pose risks.
